A GeoDomeX garden dome on timber decking on a sunny day

Original vs Ultra vs Extreme: Which GeoDomeX Dome Should You Choose?

Quick answer

For most people, the answer is Ultra: panels 30% thicker than Original and stainless steel bolts, nuts and anchors. It's our most popular specification and our pick for most UK gardens, including windy ones. Original is the accessible way in for sheltered gardens and tighter budgets. Extreme is our premium 3 mm specification for home and hospitality buyers who want the strongest panels in the range; it also adds margin on exposed, coastal or high sites. The 5 m Large comes in one specification.

Mini (2.7 m) £899 £1,299 £1,799
Standard (3.5 m) £999 £1,499 £1,999

The Large (5 m), which seats 12-16, comes in one specification: maximum-thickness panels and a 5-year warranty, at £2,999.

Every specification includes the same essentials: pre-cut, individually numbered panels, connectors and anchoring brackets, a solid sliding door, windows and roof vents, a step-by-step guide and a free Ambient LED lighting kit, with free next-day delivery to eligible UK destinations from UK stock when you order by 2pm, Monday to Friday. You're choosing strength, fixings and warranty, not features.

One practical difference: our Hexa and Natural platform bases pair with Ultra and Extreme domes, while the wooden decking base pairs with every specification.

Original: the accessible entry

Original is a real, year-round polycarbonate dome at the lowest price in the range, from £899. If your garden is reasonably sheltered (fenced, near the house, not taking the full force of coastal gales), it does everything you need: UV-protected solid clear panels built for year-round garden use, and the same included door, windows and roof vents as the rest of the range. Even at entry level you're getting polycarbonate, a material around 250 times more impact resistant than glass. It's the honest entry point for someone who wants genuine quality without stretching the budget, and a world away from a disposable PVC tent sold under the same "garden dome" name.

If you like the Original but want stainless fixings, see the optional stainless steel hardware upgrade in the current dome configuration.

Choose Original if: your site is sheltered and price is the priority.

Ultra: the one to buy

Ultra is our recommendation for most gardens because it balances upgraded panels and fixings with an accessible price. The panels are 30% thicker and the bolts, nuts and anchors are stainless steel, so it takes the weather most of Britain actually gets in its stride: open gardens, windy spells and a hard winter. For most UK homes it offers a practical balance of specification and value, while Extreme is available if you prefer our premium 3 mm panels. It's also our most popular specification.

If you're undecided, Ultra is our usual starting point for a home garden. Choose Extreme if you prefer the strongest specification, and ask us about the right base and anchoring for your exposure.

Choose Ultra if: you want the right balance of strength and price, which is most people.

Extreme: the premium flagship for homes and hospitality

Extreme is our premium option for residential gardens and hospitality settings alike. Its 3 mm solid polycarbonate panels are twice as thick as Original, paired with stainless steel bolts, nuts and anchors and a 5-year warranty. Choose it when you want the strongest specification in the range, whether for a garden dining room, a private retreat or a guest-facing venue. It is also our recommendation for more exposed, coastal or high sites, with the base and anchoring matched to the location.

That complete premium specification also makes Extreme a strong commercial buy. A glamping operator or hospitality site specifying several domes gets that strength with the sliding door, windows and roof vents already included, which keeps the per-unit sums simple. Extreme is also the dome in our Complete Set, which adds a base and a sunshade, priced together with a saving.

Choose Extreme if: you want our premium 3 mm specification and 5-year warranty for your home or business, or your site's exposure calls for our strongest panels.

A simple way to decide

  1. Sheltered garden, tight budget? Original.
  2. Most home gardens, balancing upgraded specification and price? Ultra. (Most people.)
  3. Want our premium 3 mm specification for home or hospitality, or planning a more exposed site? Extreme.
  4. Need the 5 m Large? It comes in one maximum-thickness specification, so there's nothing to choose.

If in doubt, Ultra is rarely the wrong answer: start with the 3.5 m Ultra, and use our sizes guide if you're still deciding between the Mini, Standard and Large.
